SAUSAGE PLAIT

This not only looks good but tastes good too. Chopped onion mixed with the sausagemeat makes it very tasty. You can eat it hot with vegetables or cold with salad. It’s good for lunch boxes too.

Ingredience

  • 225g sausagemeat
  • 1 small onion
  • 225g (8oz) ready made puff pastry
  • 1 egg

Method

Heat the oven to Gas 6 /200C.

Put the sausagemeat in a bowl. Finely chop the onion and mix it in. Beat the egg with a good pinch of salt and mix half of it into the mixture.

Roll out the pastry to a rectangle 12 x 8 ins (30 x 20cm) taking care to keep all edges straight. Trim all edges with a long sharp knife.

Mound the sausagemeat down the centre third. Make diagonal cuts from the sausagemeat to the edge 3/4 inch (1.5cm) apart down the length of both sides. Fold them across the sausagemeat alternately, overlapping to cover the ends and sealing with egg.

Place on a baking tray and brush egg liberally over all the pastry. Bake for approximately 25 minutes or until golden brown. It is best on the day it is made.
